You will arrive at UCSF at the pre-arranged time and place.
You will then fill out a questionnaire which will ask questions about you, your cigarette history, current cigarette use, and nicotine craving and withdrawal symptoms.
Girls will give some urine to do a pregnancy test.
You will be given 2 tablespoons of liquid solution containing an inactive form of nicotine called cotinine.
You will be asked to place a small amount of saliva in a tube so that we can test it for evidence of nicotine. The saliva will NOT be tested for drugs. Your parents will not have access to these results.
Another saliva specimen will then be collected 8 hours later to measure how much of the inactive nicotine you drank earlier is still in your body.
The entire visit will take about 9 hours.
